Pink Flag
WIRE - Mind Hive LP
$41.95
Highly recommended.
Wire were among the most innovative and creatively novel post-punk bands of the late 70s. Mind Hive sees them return to what they have been doing over the last forty (and counting) years, writing glorious catchy songs. This is is not the band of their first three classic records, nor is it Wire Mark II of the late '80s / early '90s where they went all electronic. It is however still that triumphant band that introduced themselves with the classic Pink Flag in 1977.
Wire Mark III saw them gracefully return with Send in 2003, and they haven't released a poor album since. They stick to their guns and in great tracks like the opening trio of songs "Be Like Them", "Cactused" and "Primed and Ready" we get three beasts in a row. On "Unrepentant" they go all dream pop while the 8 minute "Hung" and the 'industrial' "Oklahoma" sees them opening their book of magic tricks and going insane on us. A reminder of what a great group they still are.
