WEAK SIGNAL - War and War LP
Highly recommended.
"Weak Signal slips deeper into a Velvet Underground murk on War and War, its textures darker, damper, more fuzzed with black mold than those on the debut Bianca. The NYC-based three-piece—Mike Bones on guitar, Sasha Vine on bass and Tran on drums — pushes the women, at least vocally, further into the background. They sing in counterpoint and for emphasis rather than taking the lead, as on the last album’s “I’m a Fire,” on which a female timbre transformed the band into something more melodic but still dangerous.
Bones and his bandmates apply their obsessive attention to dark, clanking rock songs, along the lines of the Velvet Underground, the Jesus and Mary Chain and countless fuzz-crusted followers, seeking something pure and elemental in the sound. It’s maybe madness, but it also pretty great. War and War is crazily focused and powerful." - Jennifer Kelly (Dusted)
"the overall sound they’ve got going on, as if the lows are maxed out on everything, from the guitars to the drums to the vocals, not so much a heavy record as a consistently booming one. It’s a cool feel, kinda lo-fi but mostly just deep sounding in a Mary Chain way, and it’s an interesting fit for their garage-y, downer-twee indie-pop." - YGR
