Twisted Teens digs into the youth of another era, and infuses timeworn sounds with their teenage energy. The vocals should sound like they come from someone who considers effort a sign of vanity, yet you still have to empathize with him. And finally, the songs should feel timeless, but not simply because they lean too heavily on the past. Driven forward by the guitar’s saturated rhythms and pulled back by the sliding melodies of the pedal steel, Twisted Teens’ music evokes the overdrive of early Ty Segall or the Elephant 6 collective, the nonchalance of Parquet Courts, and the intoxicated American traditions of the Violent Femmes or the Gun Club - which the band may even reference in their acknowledgements.
