SEBADOH - Bakesale LP (colour vinyl)

$49.95

Limited edition silver colour vinyl.

Highly recommended.

Bakesale is frequently seen as Sebadoh's defining statement, and while there are good reasons for that rationale it's also rough (or perhaps unfair) to peg down or define Sebadoh in one single LP.

They had a marked evolution and each step is worth scrutiny, III was the sprawling angry mess and Harmacy saw the softer folk tendencies rising to the fore, to cite but two that stand on opposing spectrums. That being said Sebadoh records are almost a world unto themselves, in the way they shoot in all directions, taking their sweet time to be explored and assimilated. Filler is common. Bakesale hangs on the verge of collapse, stares into the abyss, laughs and retreats into another path. It isn't quite predictable or linear.

While other member's contributions shouldn't be downplayed (Loewenstein did pen "Careful" and "Not Too Amused") it's Lou Barlow who makes sure it all doesn't sink into oblivion. Even in his early roughly sketched songs it's apparent he's a writer with personality, able to plunge deeper into the psyche than most. Able to infuse resonance into thrashy, fuzzy, lo fi indie rock.
