It’s one of the few bands whose new records are mandatory peeping even if you’re a fair-weather garage-turkey, this new seven-inch single most certainly included. “Ecstatic Strife” is mighty sharp, with more of a twee-ish / Mod-ish demeanor than before and the cool trick of way too many notes stuffed in the recurring melodic motif. It practically takes eight bars to complete, at which point you’re already tapping your foot to the crispy-damp drums and skittish bass.
