Mojave 3's Excuses for Travellers marked a pivotal point in the band's evolution. Recorded at London's Fortress Studios with producer and electronic musician Mark Van Hoen, it brought together the intimate folk leanings of Ask Me Tomorrow and the richer country-rock elements of Out of Tune, resulting in a more focused and fully realised sound.

With influences absorbed rather than worn on its sleeve, the album places Neil Halstead's songwriting at the forefront. Subtle arrangements of guitar, pedal steel, piano, horns and restrained rhythm sections give songs such as 'In Love with a View', 'My Life in Art' and 'She Broke You So Softly' plenty of room to breathe. The record also features the only Mojave 3 songs written solely by Rachel Goswell and Ian McCutcheon: 'Bringin' Me Home' and 'Got My Sunshine'.

Reflective, understated and deeply assured, Excuses for Travellers captures a band confidently defining its own identity.
