LIAISONS DANGEREUSES - s/t LP
Essentially an underground supergroup comprised of ex members of Einstürzende Neubauten and Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft, Liaisons Dangereuses managed to sound both more streamlined and more anarchic than the oppressive synth-punk of their forerunners.
Tracks like the menacing grooves of "Mystere Dans Le brouillard", the queer industrial-dance "Los Ninos Del Parque", the anxiety inducing caper of "Etre Assis Ou Danser" (with squelching saxophone and wild screams), the mechanical void of "Aperitif De La mort", the minimal discord of "Peut Etre.. Pas" (an elaborate construction of sharp miniature-funk and disrupting synthesizer lines), the mental-confusion of "Avant-Apres Mars" (another intricate construction of synthetic drills, convulsive bleeps, micro-funk and energetic raps), the irrational Latin textures of "El Macho Y La Nena", the cyberpunk black-hole "Dupont", and the harshly symphonic disco-hymn "Liaisons Dangereuses".
Apart from offering hellishly groovy dance-tracks, Liaisons Dangereuses were also able to incorporate a wide array of psychological states within their songs, thus rightfully taking their place among the great intellectuals of synth-punk.
