This record is definitely not some half-arsed attempt at a Velvet Underground tribute. This is one of the best (if not the best) Indie/Art Rock releases in the past 10 years.
Their sound is very coherent and while it does lend a significant portion of the sound to VU, it is a lot more evolved in both production and style. Using both Lou Reed style 'anti' guitar solos on songs like "Terrible" and hypnotic entrancing grooves on "The Smile".
Lewsberg also does an amazing job at building up then breaking down momentum over the course of the albums 36-minute run-time. The song "Edith" is the album at its height of charisma and energy and then plummets to the calm melancholy of "Vicar's Cross Pt. 2".
