JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION - Now I Got Worry LP
$51.95
Highly recommended.
In 1974, blues legend Albert King told us what the blues is all about. Since the early ’90s Jon Spencer has reinforced the sentiment using screams, Theremins, two guitars, drums, no bass guitar, Judah Bauer and Russell Simins in sensational fashion - arguably most sensationally of all with his 1996 album Now I Got Worry.
It’s an album of blisteringly visceral alternative blues rock. It kicks of with a series of cathartic screams on “Skunk” before a wonky blues riff kicks in as Spencer is “goofing on Elvis” to borrow a phrase from a popular REM song. “Wail” is Jon Spencer’s best song – the riff, the groove just makes your heart beat faster. “Fuck Shit Up” is a cover and was originally by Calvin Johnson’s Dub Narcotic Sound System. It has a Beck-meets-Beastie Boys vibe. “2 Kindsa Love” is another classic from this album, sandpaper guitar playing a superb riff –song has so much energy.
“Now I Got Worry” is Jon Spencer Blues Explosion’s best album.
