Highly recommended.

Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express is nothing more than a damn-fine collection of pop tunes. It proves that one need not have a great voice to perform absolutely catchy and touching songs. While the delightful "Spring Rain" and "Head Full of Steam" get all the attention, the album boasts a pretty solid lineup of tracks, including "Twin Layers of Lightning," "In the Core of a Flame," and "Palm Sunday," which still show signs of the group's (post-) punk roots, though they are clearly moving more and more in the pop direction that they more fully realize on 16 Lovers Lane.

Richard Preston's production particularly suits these songs, and isn't as pristine and sterile as the aforementioned album.
