This is one of the weirdest transitional albums of all time. The Feelies before this record are not the Feelies that existed after this record. Peter Buck had something to do with this. But Mercer and Million clearly did some soul-searching in the six years between Crazy Rhythms and The Good Earth. Anton Fier left the band and both The Feelies and The Golden Palominos got moody & jangly.
The Good Earth is no less accomplished than Crazy Rhythms. It's just a different direction for the band.
