FAR-OUT FANGTOOTH - Borrowed Time LP
Limited edition of 500 copies.
Includes d/l code and two-sided insert.
Highly recommended.
Second full-length LP for Siltbreeze and follows an excellent 7" effort for the HoZac label. In the two years since the band’s debut, their sound has matured; their direction, finessed. While the first LP carried heavy Sonic Youth / Christian Death vibes, Borrowed Time segues in and out of the fuzz / feedback pop of The Jesus And Mary Chain, the smoldering post-punk darkness of Sort Sol and the crashing, echo-laden psychedelia of Five Day Week Straw People.
Warbling psych rock with near-demonic vocal delivery—that's what you get on "Bow Your Head", the opening track from Borrowed Time. But don't let that give you the impression that Far-Out Fangtooth live on the most amorphous fringe of the psychedelic spectrum. Though they implement a sound that's occasionally spacey with occasionally freaked out effects, the bedrock of their sophomore album is their hypnotically catchy melodies.
Sometimes they deliver a quicker song with a fuzzed out back end ("Get Around"), and sometimes, they find a surprising amount of ringing clarity ("Admit It"). It's a sonically diverse, consistently captivating listen.
