The energy of this debut is sheer unadulterated glee, a hectic rush to be heard, to stand out, to be different, to be loved. Many complained about Alec Ounsworth's vocals "too much like David Byrne", and they are certainly unusual, finding the not terribly musical midpoint between Wayne Coyne and Edith Bunker, but with the ecstatic excitement he is expressing, it works, especially when he goes off like a car alarm on "The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth" which constitutes six of the most gleeful minutes of music in the past decade.
