Once again, together with some of the finest musicians, Bill Callahan delivers another brilliant album, taking up where 2001's Rain on Lens left off, with Callahan looking back and restructuring his excellent song-writting techniques to create a record with much stronger skeleton and near-perfect songs like "Sycamore", "Footprints", "Honeymoon Child", and the highlight of this album "Diamond Dancer", with violins played by Elizabeth Warren. Woke on a Whaleheart's original ideas were arranged and co-produced by ex-Royal Trux Neil Michael Hagerty, who took Callahan's untreated, raw material, and personal stories, and designed a dream recording, with a result as great as the entire career of Hagerty and Callahan together.
