Kat Bjelland has a voice that can sound like it comes from the depths of hell, but seconds later she can sound positively angelic and demure. Without that powerful tool at their disposal Babes would be pretty hard to distinguish from any number of riot grrl groups, but the versatility of Bjelland's voice combined with the relative ass-kicking of the band as a whole puts them at the forefront of that microscene. Basically BIT were everything the mainstream music press want you to believe Hole was: passionate, righteously pissed off grrls with a knack for well constructed songs that could literally rip your balls off.
