Nestled somewhere between Mandir and Southern Revivalist, this spiritual devotional album by the ineffable Alice Coltrane is a subtly powerful album-format tapestry of fine tones in even finer arrangement. After a few listens, the final track on the digital release, Keshava Murahara flows into an infinite loop, leaving the sound waves in my living room tingling and twinkling in a ceaseless exhalation. Eyes closed, it is impossible to not imagine a young Alice seated at a church organ sustaining dusty, full throated one and two key chords for interminably long durations while meditating on the fiercely ecstatic and deliberate works she shall unleash on this material plane. In keeping with the kaleidoscopic nature of ecstasy and spirit, these exemplary tracks have the fortitude to maintain an overall effect of great force despite the whimsical historical context of layering profound synth swells with prayer.
