DISAPPEARS - Guider LP
Highly recommended.
Those fortunate to catch Chicago outfit FACS on their recent Australian tour will have an inkling of what DISAPPEARS are about. We've long stated that Brian Case went full circle when he started FACS, returning to familiar territory established with Disappears.
We also restocked Irreal and are trying to source the other Disappears albums.
There’s something obsessive compulsive about Guider, the second album of Chicago’s strangely-named Disappears, an interbreeding between proto-punk, no wave and dark psychedelia, all this propelled by motorik drums.
Brian Case barks and chants more than he sings and it all sounds a bit under-developed, but there’s something inspiring at work calling to mind the noisiest moments of early Interpol.
Guider is a short album and its second side is occupied by the sixteen-minute-long “Revisiting”, something like a gothic acid-cult version of Neu!
