Franz Ferdinand does nothing new, just makes absolutely irresistible, unbelievably simple rock music that hits like Gang of Four covering the Beegees. The album sports just enough thorns and left turns to make rock music feel dangerous in 2004.

It may just be that those sons of bitches at NME were right about everything when they canonised this one. Franz Ferdinand is one of the best straight-ahead rock albums of the century.
