COOL GREENHOUSE - Sod's Toastie LP
Highly recommended.
On Sod’s Toastie, The Cool Greenhouse have pushed their distinctive flavour of post-punk to the point of perfection – their incongruous riffs, alchemical instrumental chemistry, and irreverent spoken-word vocals are a delight throughout. Sod’s Toastie is hilarious at times, and at others just hilariously good – a not-so-difficult second album.
Here is a fact: Dates of respective first releases on Bandcamp - Wet Leg 15/6/2021, Yard Act 3/2/2021, Dry Cleaning 16/8/2019, The Cool Greenhouse 6/7/2018
(long time Strangeworld followers may have even bought their first 7" from us. We also sold one to Henry Rollins!)
The Point Being: The Cool Greenhouse were doing this kind of talk-sing-thing way before the others. They are brand leaders not followers of a so-called ‘trend’. They are arguably the best too.
Sod’s Toastie is full of surprises, repetition, existentialism, dark humour with a desperate underlying gravitas: Surrealism and dis-orienteering through the poverty, tedium and chaos of everyday life and the psychogeography of the mind… with an unreliable compass and half-blind sheep-dog…
