FELT - The Seventeenth Century LP
Previously titled Let the Snakes Crinkle Their Heads to Death.
During the æ80s Felt made ten albums and ten singles for the Cherry Red and Creation labels. This beautifully produced series examines the work of one of the greatest underground groups of modern times.
This was a landmark album for Felt, since it was not just their first release for Creation Records but was also their first album without Maurice Deebank as Lawrence's primary musical collaborator. Stepping into the breach is Martin Duffy, who had arrived on Ignite the Seven Cannons and at this point became substantially more prominent, particularly with his organ. Yes, the textural shift is a stark one, but in these instrumentals you can hear the band getting used to their brave new world and gearing up to make the magnificent Forever Breathes the Lonely Word.
