Schooley was the architect behind The Revelators, who released one of the finest punk 90s punk blasts on Crypt Records.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eRecorded in a few hours over the course of a couple of relaxed Sunday afternoons, the resulting album Dead Mall Blues recalls some of the best white blues albums of the early 1960s.  It has the laid-back grace of Backwards Sam Firk’s The True Blues and Gospel, the majesty and creepiness of John Fahey’s Blind Joe Death, the country frolic of the Holy Modal Rounders, and the drive and stomp of Koerner, Ray, and Glover.  When Daniels sings a blues song like Blind Willie McTell’s “We Got to Meet Death One Day,” it sounds like a country song.  Then, when pounding an old-time country standard like “Cluck Old Hen” the duo makes it sound like a blues song.  Obscure selections from the American songbook by the Mississippi Sheiks, Hank Williams, and R.L. Burnside mix together to make the record a heady primer on American roots.  But, like the title, there is a modern edge to the album that lends a contemporary, feel even as the music exudes a timeless quality. He continues to sound like a psychedelic Jose Feliciano. \"SANREVAN LULLABY\" has a full orchestral backing track and may be the LPs spotlight moment. Not sure what it's about but to me it sounds like the story of a depressed and suicidal boxer. Years before Morrissey's song \"Boxers\". Other tracks of interest are \"HEIKKI'S SUBURBIA BUS TOUR\", a full blown fuzz guitar rocker and \"A MOST DISGUSTING SONG\" which crosses Jim Croce with Alzo \u0026amp; Udine, it's basically a spoken word tune about weirdos who live in his neighborhood. As his music career became a memory, Rodriguez's legend was growing—on the other side of the world. In South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, Cold Fact had become a major word of mouth success, particularly among young people in the South African armed forces, who identified with its counter-cultural bent. Exhaustion put out a couple of great albums in Australia, then made the weird-seeming decision to tour and record a one-sided record with KRIS WANDERS, a tenor saxophonist who was in the thick of the early European free jazz scene. Wanders had played in various Brötzmann ensembles beginning in 1965, and appears on such legendary LPs as Schlippenbach's first Globe Unity record and Kees Hazevoet's Pleasure One. He moved down to Australia in the '70s and had played and recorded with several people, but only on CD, so we never knew about it. Wanders's first hook-up with Exhaustion was a surprisingly civilized affair. The music was as dense as the early Tony Williams Lifetime or This Heat, but never really got into the freak register, if you know what we mean. A gorgeous side. When we heard there might be another tour in the works, we begged for a boon, and this album is the result. While similar to the first collab record, this one also allows itself to get unhinged in a whole different way. Again IAN WADLEY (from MAD NANNA) is on bass, along with DUNCAN BLACHFORD on guitar and vox, and PER BYSTROM on drums. And the results are amazing free rock with a mix of blare and wobble that will leave you breathless.
